“I didn’t know I needed Debtors Anonymous until a friend suggested I go. I was feeling anxious about money, I rarely checked my bank account, and then in July  2013 I couldn’t make my rent payment. All of this was going on, but it still took someone else to spot that I may need support with compulsive debting.

I went along to my first DA meeting and I knew immediately I was in the right place. That was August 2013 and I haven’t taken any new unsecured debt since October 2013. My Barclaycard is now paid off and I have closed the account. My overdraft is almost paid off too.

The best bit was I found out that Debtors Anonymous is about so much more than paying off debt. I’m discovering what I really want to do with my life and I’m getting support to take actions towards my dreams. It’s an exciting place to be.”

Things get better with DA

DA encourages careful record keeping and monitoring of finances – including purchases, income, and debt payments – so that you get a clearer picture of your spending habits. This information is used to develop healthier spending practices, supporting you in keeping a reasonable quality of life while still repaying debt.  Similarly, DA recommends developing plans for the future to increase your income.
